OUR SPRING SWIM CLINICS ARE IN FULL SWING: . BACKSTROKE CLINIC, SAT., MARCH 25 -- Our first of four scheduled swim clinics was held on Saturday, 3/25. The focus was on backstroke -- not breaststroke as previously scheduled. Fee was $5 cash, payable at the door to the Orca Volunteer Coordinator. Sign up at the pool this week. Swimmers worked on backstroke starts, turns, and techniques.

Sat., 4/1 -Breaststroke Clinic - Orcas worked on the breaststroke to prepare for the 4/29 Time Trials. The Breaststroke kick got special attention, as this is a constant reason for DQs.

NO CLINICS WILL BE HELD DURING SPRING BREAK.

UPCOMING SWIM CLINICS:

TIMES-
8 & Unders: 8:00 -8:45
9-10s: 8:45 -9:45
11 & Ups: 9:45 - 11:00

Sat., 4/22, 8-11 am -Starts, Turns, and Breakouts
This is the day we'll have the Colorado electronic timer set up, and is also one week before Time Trials, Sat., 4/29. Orcas will learn how to shave time off their heats by learning the best techniques.

Sat., 5/6, 8-11 am - Butterfly Clinic. Orcas will work on butterfly stroke techniques, turns and finishes.

SAT., 4/29 IS TIME TRIALS!! –– For you newcomers, this is like a dual meet, held the week before the first league meet. The swimmers will climb the blocks and dive off at the sound of the starter's horn, then timed in their individual events. These times are used to establish the heats (races) for the first meet.

We will also have the swimmers get accustomed to any new meet procedures. Parents can also have the opportunity to fine tune their tasks, from timers to stroke and turn judges to snack bar crew.

During regular meets, swimmers will be placed in heats according to their best times so they'll compete against swimmers with comparable levels of skills. FYI, swimmers' times are continually updated throughout the season.

ORCAS’ REVISED PRACTICE SCHEDULE, APRIL 10-JULY 15 –– Please Note! Beginning April 10, there will be a new start time for the 8 and under and 9-10 age group practices. This is to accommodate the specific needs of our 9-10 group, who are learning to do flip turns and swim 50 yards

PRESIDENT’S CORNER, By Bart Saling

Well, the new season is here! The sun hasn't been around but the energy is there. We are looking forward to a great season. We have experienced, energetic coaches, the best pool in the league, and the best community support. GO ORCAS! Let's have a great season!

COACH’S CORNER by Luiz Rigney, Head Coach

Hello Orca Crew,

Well, the 2006 season is under way, and our team has been making great
progress in a short period of time. We have a number of new swimmers joining us, which have gelled very nicely with our returning swimmers.

In taking a look at the team as a whole, I have to say I like our chances of
competing with the top teams in the league. We are coming off one of our best
years ever and are looking to hold our position overall, if not move up.

I feel that with the coaching staff we have put together, this is very doable. Cyndi,
Paulette, and myself have been doing an extensive amount of stroke work in
addition to conditioning preparing the kids for their upcoming Time Trials. I look forward to meeting all the new families, and seeing all the returning parents. If any of you have any questions or have any specific requests, feel free to contact me at anytime.

Go Orcas!

ALL IN THE FAMILY FOLDERS.

All Orca families should check their folders at the
pool for a print-out of their volunteer commitments. If you have any questions,
please email Kris Geller (KGeller@aol.com) or call her (499-0626).

SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK:
Check the Orca Website Home page to see if your swimmer has been singled out for his/her team spirit and progress. We have three swimmers per week on average.

BRING A FRIEND TO PRACTICE: Enrollment in our team is down this year
compared to last and we'd still like to have more swimmers. So if you bring a
friend to a practice the weeks of 4/10 or 4/17, they'll get some great tips and
techniques, and you'll get $10 in Orca Bucks. They will have to pay for their visit
to the pool and make sure they bring their health insurance information.

RIBBONS AND PHOTOS FROM 2005: : If you're a returning family, you can pick up your ribbons from last year's awards ceremony at the pool during Time Trials.

SPLASH DAY PHOTOS: These are now on display on the TL Orca Web site:
http://www.tlorca.org, then click Photos.

TEAM PICTURE: Our team and individual photos will be taken on Sat., June 3 at
630 am. If you snooze, you lose! You will not be PhotoShopped into the pix!!!

ORCA PRIVACY POLICY: The Terra Linda Orcas will never share your email
addresses with third parties. In addition, your credit card information from Splash
Day registration is safe - one set of forms has been placed into a safe deposit box and only one person has the key. The other sets have been shredded.

FLIPPERS FOR PRACTICES: Coach Lou requests that each swimmer use Zoomers, or any other fin your swimmers desire to work on kick techniques.

ORCA PERFORMANCE CODE & GOAL SHEETS: Coach Lou is placing these in each swimmer's folder at the pool. Please complete them ASAP and put them in the "Completed Perf. Codes" and "Completed Goal Sheets" folders so we can collect them. By the way, the Orcas have had this policy in place in the past. It's outlined in the team's Handbook you got at registration.
